2014 Dream Week, kids recite MLK's best speeches

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) -

Centenary College began to wrap up the 2014 Dream Week with help from some local kids.

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Oratory Competition was held on campus. The event allows local, young leaders of all ages to stand center stage and retell some of Dr. King's most famous speeches, like "I had a Dream." They can also recite their own oratorical presentation. The kids vie to be the best speaker, but they're also learning important skills.

"The students are learning the art of public speaking and presentation because that is a skill that will last them a lifetime," Angelique Feaster-Evans, with Mahogany Ensemble, said. "They have the opportunity to engage and come together and learn the art of competitive competition, nice competition and sportsmanship."

The Mahogany Ensemble Theater presented the competition with help from the City of Shreveport and other sponsors.
