Mardi Gras in Jefferson Parish will take place without the Krewe of Atlas.
The cancellation is the latest in a string of cancellations that leaves the suburban Carnival season even more depleted than it was last year.
Atlas, founded in 1969 and one of Jefferson's oldest parades, joins fellow longtime krewe Thor and newcomer Atlantis in pulling the plug, at least temporarily, in 2014.
Atlas Captain Danny Murray tells The New Orleans Advocate a decline in bingo revenue and the rising cost of parading forced the decision. Still, Murray says he hopes the parade will roll again in 2015.
