Shreveport Police investigate alleged rape at SFD Station 7

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

Shreveport police are investigating a reported rape at a local fire station.

A Shreveport woman, whose identity KTBS 3 News has decided to conceal, says she was at Station 7 the morning of Nov. 18 with a firefighter she'd been dating for a few months. She says the two watched clips of pornography on her phone and talked for awhile. When she told him she was leaving the Line Ave. firehouse for work, she says the firefighter refused and took her to a private office.

"I tried to get out the door," the woman told KTBS 3 News. "He barricaded the door. He blocked the door. He wouldn't let me get out, and that's when he forced me to have oral sex with him. I felt so hurt. I felt embarrassed. I felt ashamed. I went outside, and threw up beside the building after that happened."

She says she struggled with her feelings following the encounter. She first tried to forget about the encounter and move on with her life, but Jan. 22 she went to Shreveport Police Department to file a report.

"[The detectives] advised me that their investigation has been forwarded over to the Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office for review," SPD's Bill Goodin said.

The woman says she was worried that her investigation wasn't being taken seriously because the detective assigned to her case knows the suspect. She recorded their last conversation Wednesday. In the cell phone recording, the man identified as the detective says the suspect admitted to the oral sex but told police it was consensual. He also says the suspect is on paid administrative leave from Shreveport Fire Department.

"They tell you that you can go to the fire station for help- that the fire station is a safe house- but I didn't feel safe that day," the woman said. "I did not feel protected that day."

Even if the DA rejects to pursue a criminal case, SFD will have to rule whether receiving oral sex- which SPD says the firefighter admitted to- is a policy violation.

Five other Shreveport firefighters were arrested in the fall for the alleged mistreatment of two mentally-handicapped men.

Billy Glass, Derrick Harris, Clint Richardson and Jason Vaughan are charged with principal to prostitution and cruelty to the infirm. SPD investigators say the firemen hired a prostitute for a man who frequently hung out at the station and encouraged him to have sex with her in a Station 8 bathroom.

A fifth firefighter, Randy Chandler, was arrested on one count of cruelty to the infirm. He was not present at the alleged June 14 prostitution but his arrest came out of the resulting investigation.
