NATCHITOCHES, La. (KTBS) -

A group of elementary school students  are  now able to plant the seeds for a hands-on learning experience.

It was all possible thanks to their teacher's One Class at A Time grant.

KTBS 3's Keristen Holmes and Crystal Whitman teamed up to introduce us to another special teacher from Natchitoches Parish who won her grant a little over a year ago.

This is the 4th year for these Natchitoches students to have their very own garden.
Just like the seeds from their fruits and veggies... The small idea has grown.
They've even had seven successful harvests after going to the library to research agriculture.

"We have planted in the garden peanuts cucumbers some pumpkins...Umm  tomato's," said student Kadence Creamer.

"We've done a lot with the garden and it's amazing to see how the hands on aspect of gardening truly makes it come alive and meaningful," said teacher Lisa Wiggins.

Their teacher say's she used the grant money to buy seeds for their garden.

"We know in education the money is hard to come by and so with that we were able to double the garden otherwise it would have stayed a smaller size and it really helped us to kick off our plans and make it happen," said Wiggins.

It's definitely a hands-on project that encourages learning... Both in and outside the classroom.

The next winner could be at your school.
