SPD recover two iPads stolen from elementary school, offer amnesty for return of others

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

Shreveport Police say thieves have stolen an estimated $50,000 worth of electronics, including laptops and iPads, from Oak Park Elementary since December.

SPD Det. Angie Willhite says a thief- or thieves- broke into the Henry St. schoolhouse the weekend of Dec. 15 and stole 30 black and gray HP laptops. Nineteen 2nd generation iPads were taken in January. The school is also missing 3 Dell laptops and an Epson projector.

SPD says a Good Samaritan turned in two of the stolen iPads recently. The man told police a stranger approached him in the Greenwood-Jewella area and offered to sell him the devices at a reasonable price. However, when the buyer fired up the iPads he saw a Caddo Schools logo on the background.

Police are offering amnesty to anyone who turns over the stolen goods.

"We would like to get those back to the school because the school may not have the money to replace those, and the kids agree the ones hurting behind this," Willhite said. "They don't have this technology available to them, and it's something they use everyday at the school there at Oak Park."

If you bought an Oak Park iPad, call Caddo CrimeStoppers at (318) 673-7373.

While SPD won't arrest anyone who voluntarily turns over the stolen goods, anyone convicted of possession of stolen things could face up to three years in prison and a $3,500 fine.
