New tigers on National Signing Day

Posted: Updated:
BATON ROUGE, La -

LSU joins thousands of other colleges in the waiting game Wednesday as many high school seniors across the ArkLaTex are deciding what football teams they want to play for the next four years on National Signing Day.

Recruits can sign their letter of commitment anytime Wednesday and fax it in to the school. When the school of their choosing receives their letter a binding commitment is made.

Over the summer, Parkway High School quarterback Brandon Harris committed to become a LSU tiger. He's one of the top quarterback recruits in the country.

Harris was one of the seniors to take advantage of the new NCAAP rule that allowed seniors graduating in December to obtain their scholarship for college for the spring semester.

But Harris still had to wait until Wednesday to sign his official letter of commitment for it to become binding in NAACP standards.

A Bossier boy,  Harris led Parkway to the 5-A championship for the first time in school history. He graduated Parkway in December and enrolled at LSU for the spring semester.

LSU also is keeping their eye on one of the state's top recruit, Leonard Fournette—a running back from St. Augustine  in New Orleans.

He's been described as a big, powerful running back in high school football. According to KTBS recruiting expert Barton Simmons, Fournette is the number one player in the nation.

Simmons also has also compared the senior to Adrian Peterson, who went to Oklahoma and now plays for the NFL.

Senior Malachi Dupre is said to be one of the top most sought after players in the country and he's from New Orleans, and the senior hasn't made it easy for colleges when it comes to deciding who he will sign with.

The wide receiver is considered an LSU favorite but that may not be the case. In recent weeks, Dupre has taken official visits to Ole Miss and Flordia State. This past weekend the senior made a trip to visit UCLA.

While Louisiana is fill of top recruits, LSU has not turned a blind eye to those top high school seniors from out of state.

Seniors such a Florida's own Travonte Valentine. Valentine has become a top contender for many universities has a potential recruit. This is because he's considered a top defensive tackle.

Valentine is a key player for the Tigers as many other top defensive tackles have already committed to other schools. Plus the tigers are getting pretty thin on their defensive line.

Head coach Les Miles will be holding a press conference to announce all the recruits for the tigers. Get a recap of the National Signing Day events and see who went where during the Lander's National Signing Day special on KTBS 3 News at 6:30pm.
