Tech will send two to combine

Posted: Updated:
RUSTON, La -

For the second consecutive year, multiple Louisiana Tech players have been invited to attend and work out at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis on Feb. 19-24.

Defensive tackle Justin Ellis and defensive end IK Enemkpali will represent the Bulldogs in the nationally televised workout event for scouts from all 32 NFL teams.

Louisiana Tech – one of 14 football playing member institutions in Conference USA this past year – represents one-quarter of the league's representatives in this year's NFL Combine invites. LA Tech, Rice and Tulane all have two players invited while Florida Atlantic and Southern Miss each have one.

Ellis posted 102 total tackles in his four-year career at Louisiana Tech with 9.5 tackles for a loss of 21 yards. He forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles in his career and was credited with three QB hurries and three pass break-ups.

A first team All-Conference USA and All-Louisiana honoree, Enemkpali started all 12 games for the Bulldogs at right end. He compiled 47 total tackles (21 solo, 26 assisted) with 11 tackles for a loss of 43 yards. He registered a team-best 5.5 sacks for a loss of 33 yards and was one of only two defensive linemen in the country to post multiple interceptions this season with two picks returned for 22 yards. Enemkpali, a native of Pflugerville, Texas, led the team with seven QB hurries and was also credited with a pass break-up.

Both Ellis and Enemkpali played in this year's Senior Bowl.

Last year the Bulldogs sent five players to the NFL Draft: punter Ryan Allen, quarterback Colby Cameron, offensive guard Oscar Johnson, offensive tackle Jordan Mills and receiver Quinton Patton. Allen, Mills and Patton all were on active NFL rosters throughout the season.

The Bulldogs recently announced the program's 21-member signing class with 17 high school players signing National Letters of Intent Wednesday to attend Louisiana Tech.

Spring practice for Louisiana Tech begins on March 14 with the T-Day Spring Game slated for Saturday, April 12.

Louisiana Tech's 2014 season opens on Aug. 30 at Oklahoma.
