No resting on laurels for Tech; still working to improve

With Louisiana's Tech's win over Tulsa Thursday night the Bulldogs pulled within a half game of first place in Conference USA.  Head coach Michael White is happy with the way his team is playing, but insistent it must improve.

White undoubtedly remembers the team's final season in the WAC, when it opened 16-0 in conference play, only to stumble down the stretch, lose in the conference tournament and then get left out of the NCAA's.  White says he just wants the team to keep working to improve and see where their journey takes them.  Clearly the desire is for their road to lead to the Big Dance.

Jaron Johnson scored 18 points as Louisiana Tech came back to beat Tulsa 66-61 Thursday.

A 6-0 spurt by Tulsa extended its lead to 50-41 with 6:53 remaining. Louisiana Tech scored eight of the next nine points, trimming its deficit to two with about 5 minutes to play.

Rashad Ray hit a jumper and James Woodard made a free throw to make it 54-49 with 3:16 left but Louisiana Tech went on a 14-1 run — including eight points from Kenyon McNeail — to give the Bulldogs (19-5, 7-2 Conference USA) a 63-55 advantage with 37 seconds to go.

Tim Peete's layup pulled Tulsa (10-12, 5-3) within five and, following a steal by Ray, Woodard's layup made it 64-61 with 19 seconds left.

Kenneth Smith and Johnson each made 1 of 2 free throws in the final 16 seconds to seal the win.

Shaquille Harrison paced Tulsa with 14 points.
