Retiring at 65 is no longer automatic for everyone. Many choose are staying in the work force past the retirement age.

The Louisiana Tower is one the more imposing buildings in downtown Shreveport and every weekday morning that's where 89 year old Rita Fruge heads - -up to the 15th floor not to visit, or take in the view, but to go to her job as bookkeeper at Nelson Energy.

"I like what I do and I'm going to stay with it as long as I can. As long as they let me work," Fruge said.

The way her job is done has changed over the past 3 and a half decades and Rita has changed with the times.

"I came here when they had general ledger was done with a pencil. And now it's done with computers." she said.

Her coworkers are one of the big reasons she enjoys her job so much.

"Everybody gets along. Everybody works together. You say it's like family like family."

As an older worker Rita and Nelson Energy have been honored nationally and her future plans call for her to stay on the job as long as possible.

"Work as long as I can. I can do what I want to do, when I want to. And as long as I'm working."

89 years old...or to be more accurate, 89 years young Rita Fruge… living the good life and looking forward to more of the same.
