Gov. Bobby Jindal just announced that Minnesota-based company Lube Tech will make a $16 million investment in west Shreveport facility near the former GM Plant.
The company will create 75 new jobs direct jobs and 280 indirect jobs. Earlier indications were that the jobs could average about $41,000 a year in pay.
Lube Tech will be located at 7699 West Bert Kouns, the site of a former General Motors supplier. The site has easy railroad and interstate access.
Based in the Midwest, the company has a worldwide market in small engine fluid. The Bert Kouns site is already zoned for heavy industry but has asked for an exception to allow mixing, packaging and storing of petroleum products.
Sealy Company is handling the real estate transaction and zoning change to the Metropolitan Planning Commission. A public hearing on the application will be March 12. AI-Shreveport formerly occupied the Bert Kouns site.
