Shriners unveils technology used in video games

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

Shriners Hospitals for Children unveiled some cutting edge technology Monday.

They debuted an upgrade to their motion lab that allows doctors to track patient movements in real time.

Children are hooked up with censors on their major joints that can be transferred into an image showing their range of motion.

Doctors can then detect and treat abnormalities in the way the patients walk.

This is the same technology used in video games and major motion pictures like Polar Express, which is a big plus with the kids.

"They enjoy it because it is the same process as making a video game. A lot of them have seen on the Disney Channel or on commercials how they make video games and they realize they are doing the same process," said physical therapist Susan Bryant.

The movement analysis lab at Shriners is made possible entirely by generous donors.

Shriners CEO John Cinotto flew in from Indianapolis for the big debut.
