School Raises Money for child with Cystic Fibrosis

He's  a little child with a big heart. And this week his teachers and classmates are going the extra mile to honor him.

2-year-old Joshua Reeves  loves to be active and play, but the Haughton child has to undergo daily breathing treatments, as well as several medications for symptoms of Cystic fibrosis, a disease that attacks the lungs.

"His breathing treatments go up to 6 times a day.  So he has medications here at school also. We try to let him live a normal life, come to daycare and  let him play with all his friends," said Mother Julia Reeves.

This week his school, Eastwood Baptist Church daycare, is raising money through a bake sale to help pay for vital equipment to help clear his lungs and improve his breathing.

"I know this is just for the cost of the vest however there is definitely medicine and things that come up,  and we would love to be able to meet their needs," said Children's Pastor Mike Schultz.

The vest is a big machine. It looks like a life jacket as it goes on him. It has a vacuum hose and it will compresses him and do pats on him, because normally I have to pat him and get the mucous out of it," said Reeves.

In addition to the school's bake sale,  Joshua's family is also soliciting donations with "Jogging With Joshua" T-shirts. They hope to chip away at the cost of the smart vest.

"It's a $20,000 product but it is good for Joshua's life.  So whenever he needs a new tube or he needs a bigger vest, the company will supply that for him. And our insurance will cover a good portion of that," said Reeves.

It's a new life saving vest giving little Joshua a new outlook on life Crystal Whitman, KTBS 3 news.
