Landrieu Heads Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee

Posted: Updated:

Senator Mary Landrieu moves into a new position in Congress that has some cheering and others upset.

The Louisiana democrat takes the reins of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Landrieu supports tax breaks and incentives for oil drilling.

She also supports giving oil companies the green light to export crude oil and natural gas.

Many environmentalists are against that because it may lead to more fracking.

Landrieu says more fracking would be a good thing.

"The facts are speaking louder and louder that fracking is safe, that you can do this safely, and we can be energy secure in the United States," she said.

Landrieu takes the reins from Senator Ron Wyden, who is now chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

She said creating jobs in domestic energy will be one of her priorities.
