Centenary falls 77-70 to Colorado College

The Centenary men's basketball team witnessed its seven-game win streak come to an end in a 77-70 loss to Colorado College on Saturday evening. The Gents move to 14-9 on the season while the Tigers improve to 16-6. Both squads stand tied at 9-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

Jonathan Blount and Caden Cheramie each tallied 21 points to lead the Maroon and White. Cheramie also led the team with seven rebounds.

Both squads held double-digit advantages in the second half. The Gents held an early 11 points lead. The Black and Gold grabbed its largest advantage with 4:41 to play at 10 points.

After the Gents held their largest lead of the game, Colorado College answered with a 14-2 run to take its first lead since the 16:22 mark of the opening half with 12:16 to play on a layup by Justin Berardino. The Tigers never relinquished the advantage the remainder of the way holding off valiant attempts by the Maroon and White.

Centenary pulled to within three points with 12 seconds left on a three-pointer by Cheramie, but the Tigers knocked down the final four free throws of the contest to ice the game.

Centenary finished the night shooting 46 percent from the field and were 6 of 19 from behind the arc in the contest. The Gents connected on 18 of 20 shots from the charity stripe.

Chris lesnansky led the Tigers with 23 points while Russell Clark added 21 points off the bench. Ryan Milne, who played all 40 minutes in the contest, finished the night with 18 points. Daniel Webb grabbed a team-best five boards in the winning effort.

The Tigers finished the night shooting 45.6 percent and were 77 percent from the free throw line.

Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 18 as the Gents host Open Bible College. Tip is slated for 7 p.m.
