Faith Hope Love Youth Corp. closes

Posted: Updated:
Texarkana, Arkansas -

After more than a decade of providing school and summer programs to Texarkana area youth the Faith Love and Hope Youth Corporation has closed their doors.

Now they're looking to the community for help.

The halls are empty and the lights are out at the Faith Love and Hope Youth Corporation in Texarkana, Arkansas.

Executive Director Rose Warfield McGill says the program has been bogged down by several setbacks, including the unintentional loss of their non-profit status and a rash of burglaries.

McGill says they closed at the end of January, after 13 heating and air units were stolen from the center.

It cost almost $1500 per unit to replace.

She says before they can re-open they also have to re-apply for their non-profit status and restructure the organization's Board of Directors.

"We need a stronger more diverse board of directors to support us, so that we can have better programs," said McGill.

The organization provided after-school activities to about 80 children a day.

"It was better on both behalf's, for the children and for us, to close the doors, restructure and come back even stronger," said McGill.

Organizers hope to re-open in the fall.

For more information on the program or how you can help, call Rosie Warfield McGill at 903-244-8736.
