Educators across Louisiana are joining with lawmakers. The Caddo Parish School Board hosted a Legislators' Luncheon to discuss important issues.
The school board's focus was to fill in area lawmakers about issues that affect schools across the state.
"We do think that it is really important that we as a large district in this area use this platform as an opportunity to bring even smaller districts in," said Superintendent Lamar Goree.
School and legislative delegates from Caddo, Bossier, DeSoto and Webster Parishes attended an annual luncheon at the Independence Bowl Sky box in Shreveport to discuss the most important issues geared towards education.
"Today was an opportunity to get with the school board and to hear their concerns in the upcoming year," said State Representative Barbara Norton.
On the agenda were issues like funding, Common CORE State Standards, and the impact of education reform on teacher retirement rates.
Caddo School Board Chief Academic Advisor Keith Burton said it was a great chance for an open, face-to-face discussion.
"It was important to have dialogue with our legislators and to be able to share with them some of our concerns," said Burton.l
This was the fourth year for the Legislative Luncheon.
The session begins on March 10th.
