LSU freshman Jake Fraley hit a three-run home run Sunday, and freshman Jared Poche' threw seven strong innings in a 4-1 victory over Texas Southern in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

No. 2 LSU (7-0) returns home Tuesday to face 14-ranked UL-Lafayette (7-1) at 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised by Cox Sports Television, and it can be heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network. Live video, audio and stats will be available at LSUsports.net.

Poche' (2-0) was credited with the win after scattering four hits in seven innings, allowing one run and striking out seven.

"Poche' was excellent again tonight," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "He's a very intelligent kid, and he really understands what he's doing out on the mound. He demonstrates a lot of poise and he has tremendous ability. I'm looking forward to watching him continue to develop."

The Tigers started the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Chris Sciambra led off with a double to the left-center field gap before Danny Zardon plated him with an RBI single up the middle.

LSU scored three runs in the fourth inning after Fraley hit his first homer of his career over the right field wall that plated Christian Ibarra and Kade Scivicque, who both reached base after being hit by a pitch.

"Jake Fraley came to us in the fall with a lot of high expectations, but he just didn't perform very well," Mainieri said. " Since he returned to school for the spring semester, he's been a different player and his confidence continues to grow. He's an outstanding athlete who certainly can make an impact for us."

Texas Southern got on the board in the top of the seventh after Zach Howell doubled to lead off the inning, stole third and scored on a Chris DeLeon RBI single.

Freshman Parker Bugg got LSU out of a jam in the eighth inning after Brady Domangue hit a batter and allowed a single. After a sacrifice bunt moved runners to second and third, Bugg got back-to-back strikeouts to hold LSU's three-run lead.

"Parker Bugg was tremendous in that eighth inning, and he showed why we think so highly of him," Mainieri said. "I've been extremely pleased with the way he continues to improve with each outing."

Joe Broussard recorded a strikeout in the ninth before Kurt McCune closed out the game.

Texas Southern pitcher Devin Kanorik (1-1) was the losing pitcher after giving up four runs, all earned, on three hits and two walks in 4.2 innings pitched.
