Marshall woman's family asks for answers about last days

Posted: Updated:
MARSHALL, Tx. -

Darlene Leonard say she still visits the spot on Scott Quarters Rd. in Marshall where Sharon Leonard's body was found Saturday to have coffee with her younger sister and tell her things she'll never get to say in person.

"She did what she did, but she was lovable," Darlene Leonard said of Sharon. "She was just nice. She had a big- the biggest- heart."

Darlene says her sister died of natural causes, but whoever she was with the last days of her life placed her body along the roadway. Darlene- and Marshall police- want to know why and what happened the last hours of her life.

"We do have a lot of unanswered questions so we're basically trying to get some kind of closure to the family to determine how did her body get there on the side of the road?" MPD's Det. Sonya Johnson said.

Sharon Leonard's body was sent to Tyler for autopsy.

The preliminary results show she may have died from an aneurysm, but they're waiting on the results of a toxicology test to be sure, a process which takes four to six weeks.

"Whoever placed her here did have enough heart to bring her home because they could have placed her anywhere and we wouldn't have ever known where she was, and we're grateful for that."

If you have any information on Sharon Leonard's last days, call Marshall CrimeStoppers at (903) 935-9969.

Sharon Leonard's family and friends will gather again at 6 PM Saturday at the corner of Color Alley and Scotts Quarters Rd. for a tree planting ceremony in her memory.

Friday's candlelight vigil was organized by Marshall Against Violence.

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion. We’ve uncovered concerns, however, over how their numbers look so good - while patients are still waiting to be seen.“Certainly from my viewpoint here, as a veteran, as a physician, the c...

Ever since allegations that veterans died waiting for care came out of phoenix, we've all been asking, why, and how could an organization aimed at helping our servicemen and women foster an atmosphere where this has gone on for so long?
