Two people dead following mobile home blaze in Caddo Parish

Posted: Updated:
CADDO PARISH, La. (KTBS) -

Fire crews in Caddo Parish responded to a fatal fire in Gilliam, Louisiana.

The fire began just before 11:30a.m. Monday in the 5400 block of Community, just off of Highway 3049. Caddo Fire Districts 7 & 8 responded to the scene.

According to fire officials, a two bedroom mobile home was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived.

The blaze resulted in the deaths of a 35 year-old Adonis Walker and his girlfriend, 32 year-old Hanna Hawkins, who lived in the home.

A neighbor nearby told KTBS 3 News that he could hear the couple screaming and attempted to rescue them through a small window. Unfortunately, the fast-moving fire was too much for him to handle.

Neighbors told KTBS 3 News that the couple does have children. The children were at school at the time of the blaze.

Fire Investigators say the fire started in a bedroom. While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, investigators believe electricity supplied to the home by extension cords played a role. There were no working smoke alarms found in the residence.

State Fire Marshal investigators, along with Caddo Parish Sheriff's Deputies, continue to investigate the cause of the deadly fire.
