New contender at QB for LSU maybe a different Brandon

Posted: Updated:
BATON ROUGE, La -

LSU will begin spring football practice on Saturday and when they do may have a new quarterback in the mix to replace Zach Mettenberger.  We know many eyes will be on former Parkway quarterback Brandon Harris as he tries to get in the mix, but he won't be the only "Brandon" trying to do so.

Former St. Thomas More quarterback Brandon Bergeron, who played at Highlands Junior College in Kansas last year, is at LSU as a walk-on.  Bergeron had several division-one scholarship offers, but wants to play at LSU.  The editor and publisher of Louisiana Football Magazine, Lee Brecheen, says Bergeron is a player who "could" get in to the mix and a player tiger fans "should" keep an eye on.  Bergeron was in the same Junior College conference as Butler College, where Zach Mettenberger played before coming to LSU.  Brecheen says the coach at Butler told him, after playing against Highlands that Bergeron is a better quarterback than Mettenberger.

Brecheen says he does not think Bergeron will be able to become the starter during spring ball, but could make a run for the job by fall and says Bergeron is the best walk-on quarterback he has ever seen during his time covering LSU football.

It should be an interesting spring and maybe an even more interesting fall. Bergeron and Brandon Harris will be working to catch up with both Anthony Jennings and Hayden Rettig, who already have a full year in Cam Cameron's system.
