Chad Jones; Making a new pitch for the pros

Posted: Updated:
New Orleans, La. -

Former LSU safety Chad Jones left LSU looking for a pro football career, but fate changed that before it started.  Jones was a third round draft pick of the New York Giants, but never played a down after a horrific car accident which almost took his left leg and nearly killed him.

Jones has endured nearly 20 surgeries on the leg and while he tried to make his way to the Giants, who stood by him through rehab, he was never the same as a football player.  Jones is now working at his other favorite sport; baseball.

Jones is a hard throwing lefthander who came out of the bullpen with LSU and is hoping he can do the same in the major leagues.  Jones was selected in the 9th round of the baseball draft by the Cincinnati Reds and says he is one of only nine lefthanders in the entire organization.  Jones worked hard in New Orleans preparing for spring training in Arizona and says he hopes to work his way to Double-A ball this year.  Of course, eventually, his sights are set on making his way to the big leagues.  Should that day come, it would be quite a comeback.

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion.
