SAU arena and reception nears completion

Posted: Updated:

Rodeo team members at Southern Arkansas University have reason to celebrate.
This week, the school hosts the first official rodeo inside their new facility.
The 180 square foot arena comes with a price tag of $4.4 million .

Farmers Bank and Trust, recently committed $250,000 to the reception facility as well as naming rights- Farmers Bank Reception Center at Story Arena. It is located on SAU's campus on the north side of U.S. 82. It is expected to be an economic boom for the region.

"I'm real excited.  We've been anticipating this for a very long time.  I think it's a great addition to our rodeo team and it really helps us out a bunch.  It gives us a great place to practice, especially in and out of the weather.  I think we are going to have one of the nicest facilities to compete in out of all the school districts," said rodeo team member, Kaylyn Fitzgerald, of Shreveport, LA.

The school is looking forward to the positive news, after a tragic incident back in 2011, when a  former rodeo team member stole horses.

The first official rodeo will be held this weekend at the arena. It runs Thursday through Saturday, starting at 7 p.m. March 13-15, 2014. Admission prices are as follows; 410 for adults, children 5-12 are $5, and free admission for children 0-4 and SAU students, faculty and staff.
