Sunny day as shown by weather balloon data

Posted: Updated:

Well, there is more than one way to point out a sunny morning.  Other than looking up in the sky and acknowledging clear, blue skies...here's the weather balloon data from the Shreveport National Weather Service and Rap Ucar illustrating it.

The balloon was launched at about 7 AM and traveled well past 45,000 Feet into the stratosphere (where the lines turn toward the right above 150 mb on the left side of the chart).  The temperature or red line and the dew point or green line are much greater than 5 degrees Celsius apart indicating a really dry atmosphere.  Thus, there were no clouds early this morning.  Usually, they show up when the lines touch or are less than 5 degrees separated.

Hope you had a nice day!
