Former Red River Parish Sheriff, Johnny Ray Norman, passes away

KTBS 3 News has learned that former Red River Parish Sheriff, Johnny Ray Norman, has died.

The 72 year-old passed away Friday morning. Mr. Norman is described as a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be missed by all those who knew him and loved him.

Norman was President of the Red River Soil and Water Conservation District for many years and he also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of First United Methodist Church for numerous years. He was elected Red River Parish Sheriff in 2004 and served for two consecutive terms. During his tenure as Sheriff, he served on various committees for the Louisiana Sheriff's Association. 

Norman is described as a pillar of his community where he had been very active in various groups and organizations from an early age until his retirement. Mr. Norman loved the people and community he served and through his many years of dedicated service, he touched the lives of many people.

Visitation for Norman will be on Saturday, March 15 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Coushatta.

Funeral services will be on Sunday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the same location.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Huan Le, Dr. Spence Willis and 5th floor nursing staff of Willis-Knighton North.

The family also requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church Youth Choir, P.O.  Box 487, Coushatta, Louisiana 71019 or the charity of your choice.
