Bulldogs fall short

The No. 1 seed Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (27-7, 14-3 C-USA) fell to Tulsa (21-12, 14-3 C-USA), 69-60, Saturday in the final of the Conference USA Championship at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.

With the win over Tech, Tulsa receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, while the Bulldogs will get a berth in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) after earning the No. 1 seed in the Conference USA Tournament.

For the first time this season, the Bulldogs were defeated after leading by a score of 35-34 at halftime. Prior to today's game against Tulsa, LA Tech was 24-0 when leading opponents at the half.

 

Tulsa out-rebounded Louisiana Tech 38-37, while the Bulldogs forced just 11 turnovers by the Golden Hurricane. Tech shot 32 percent from the field compared to 43 percent for Tulsa in the final of the C-USA Championship.

 

Louisiana Tech was led by Kenneth Smith, who totaled 16 points, seven assists and four rebounds. Twelve of Smith's 16 points came from beyond the arc as the guard was 4-8 from three-point range. Kenyon McNeail also hit four three-pointers in the game with a total of 15 points in the game. Michale Kyser led on the boards with eight rebounds.

 

James Woodard paced the Golden Hurricane as he led all scorers with 27 points, while Shaquille Harrison led Tulsa with eight rebounds.
