Jimmie Davis Bridge will close for upcoming face lift

Posted: Updated:

The Jimmie Davis Bridge will have to close completely during its upcoming face lift.

Department of Transportation spokes person Susan Stafford said that could mean an entire year.

The bridge is scheduled for some up-keep work starting at the beginning of 2015. It will be redecked, repainted, repaired structurally and add lights to the driving portion of the bridge.

The cost of the bridge rehabilitation is project to be between $15 and $20 million. While the closure will be inconvenient, Stafford said it is to protect all involved.

"For the safety of the crews out there working and the motorist, and also they can actually work quicker to get that work done," Stafford said.

This project is different from the environmental study being conducted that looks into expanding the bridge. That study continues and should be ready this summer.
