Edwards Leads Congressional Poll

Posted: Updated:

Edwin Edwards got national attention when he announced he would run for Louisiana's 6th Congressional district. But it seems he also caught the eye of voters.

According to LAPolitics.com, an independent automated poll conducted over the phone in the 6th district asked more than 700 voters who they would send to congress if the election was that day. The majority said it would be Edwards.

The former governor and ex-convict got more than 40 percent of the vote, followed by current state senator for that area Dan Claitor with 20 percent, and Baton Rouge businessman Paul Dietzel at 19 percent. However, the poll did leave out three candidates.

Right now, there are 11 people running but the last day of filing isn't until August.

Edwards is just one of three democrats that say they'll run, up against eight republicans.

The general election is set for November 4th with a 'if needed' run-off scheduled for December 6th.
