SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) -

Friday is a very important day for forth year seniors at the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine. It's Match Day!

The students will find out where they will spend the next few years training as residents.

There will be a ceremony this morning where the students will stand in front of their family and friends and open an envelop with a letter from the school they are matched with.

School officials say the process to get to this day is a grueling one.

"They send out 20, 30 or 40 applications to different programs around the country," said Dr. Mark Platt, assistant dean of Student Affairs. "[The students will] Interview at about 10 or 12 of those programs. And then they rank the programs in preference. The programs rank the students by preference. And on Friday they will learn where they are going. That's Match Day."

Dr. Platt saw the list of where the 101 students will go Thursday and said 35 percent of this year's class will be staying in Louisiana which is about average for the school. Twenty to 25 percent will stay in Shreveport for their residency, according to Platt.

He said a little more than half of the students participating in match day will go into primary care, and Dr. Platt calls that a successful class!
