The Polar Vortex again?

Posted: Updated:

The Winter of 2013 and 14 was way too long! Arctic front after arctic front plus snow storm after snow storm helped set numerous records across the eastern US.

The majority of the cold problems were east of the Continental Divide including in the ArkLaTex.

Remember the big snows in Toledo Bend?

Surprisingly, our Winter wasn't the coldest on record even though it felt that way. The National Weather Service says that it was only the 20th coldest.

On the other hand, the west baked with heat and drought. Here's a few of the records.

And the drought was the worst in California where most of the state was in the exceptional range or top of the chart.

Ok, so now we have moved on to Spring which started on the 20th of March.  Now, with the sun rising higher in the sky, we should heat up some more...right?

In fact, late March temperatures should range from lows in the mid 40s to highs in the low 70s.

But, our Polar Vortex continues to behave like it's Winter by churning out arctic fronts and sending them our way. The next several days are expected to be chilly with highs some 10-20 degrees below average east of the Rocky Mountains.

Eventually though, warmer weather has to come our way as we march toward Summer. NOAA's outlook for the remainder of Spring is for above average temps and dry conditions.
