Electronics shop shuts down, customer says taking her money

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) -

Wright's Sound Gallery on Youree Drive has been in business for several decades here in Shreveport but not anymore. The store has vacated its property. Customers are still showing up to shop at the now empty Wright's. The store shutdown due to late rent payments a few weeks ago. That's left former customer Jennifer Williamson to take legal action against the store.

"I thought I was in a safe situation," Williamson said. "Obviously, I wasn't."

Williamson says she paid the store more than $3,000 to install a DVD system in her car's headrests.

"They said you have to pay up front because they were custom, and they would take about a week to get in," Williamson said.

That never happened over the course of around two months. Before Williamson could get her money back, Wright's shutdown. A civil suit filing says the store was $74,000 behind on rent.

"The store was supposed have been shutdown by the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, but when deputies arrived, the found the property had already been vacated," Williamson said.

Williamson believes the owner knew he was going to vacate before giving her the promise of a refund. Now, she's left without her DVD system or her money.

"I'm out $3,400," Williamson said. "It's not an amount of money I'm able to replace myself. I'm a young mom."

Williamson says she's already spoken to police and want's to file theft charges. Williamson says she used a check to pay for the DVD system and can't get her money back through the bank. Now, she's waiting for the police to bring her justice.
