BIENVILLE PARISH, La. -

A Heflin, LA man was struck twice and killed early Sunday morning while lying in the roadway of US Highway 371, about 3 miles north of Ringgold.

Louisiana State Police say it happened about 1:45 a.m. and crash investigators determined that 25-year-old Zachary Malham was lying in the northbound lane of Hwy 371 when he was struck by a 2004 Honda driven by 52-year-old Pamela Doyle of Heflin.

Doyle applied her brakes and swerved to the right but was unable to avoid hitting Malham. A second vehicle, driven by 23-year-old Tedderick Williams of Heflin, also hit Malham.

Malham was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner's Office, and police say the drivers of the two vehicles were wearing their seatbelts and were not injured.

Authorities say impairment on the part of Malham is suspected to be a factor in the crash, and Doyle and Williams were not charged.

Toxicology samples were obtained from Malham as well as both drivers and will be submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
