SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) -

Just two days after the announcement of the first-ever regional business Pop UP Project, a proposal has been received.

"Wow," said DDA/DSDC Executive Director Liz Swaine. "We knew people were excited, but that was fast work."

Pop UP partner Citizens National Bank Vice President, Kim Bailey, was equally amazed.

Since the announcement of the Pop UP Project on Monday, Bailey and Swaine have spoken to groups at Cohab, the Red River Rotary Club and the Shreveport Regional Arts Council's Artists Entrepreneur class and all have been equally engaged about ways to participate.

On Monday, the Downtown Shreveport Development Corporation & Downtown Development Authority, Citizens National Bank and the City of Shreveport announced a creative way to make business dreams come true. Pop UP involves choosing existing brick-and-mortar businesses that already exist and wish to have a second location-- or --brand new retail entrepreneurs for three Pop UP locations throughout 2014: the Red River District in May, the Central Business District in the fall and Shreveport Common during the holidays.

For the first Pop UP May 12-23, at least five businesses will be given prime storefront space in the Red River District for two weeks of free rent and utilities, get free regional marketing & PR, business banking advice from Citizens National Bank, professional photographic services to show their products in the best possible light, a soft opening event to introduce them to the community and more business perks that are being added daily.

"Cities around the country are using similar projects to animate vacant storefronts, increase pedestrian traffic, and match property owners with businesses and entrepreneurs. It ends up helping everyone involved."

Those who wish to learn more about the Downtown Pop UP Project should go to: www.downtownshreveport.com or to the Pop UP blog at: http://popupdowntownshreveport.wordpress.com/

The Request for Proposals is available at either of those two websites, at any branch of Citizens National Bank, or by calling (318)222-7403 or emailing dda@downtownshreveport.com
