Interest builds in La. as insurance deadline looms

Posted: Updated:
LOUISIANA -

As the deadline for signing up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act approaches, community organizations and clinics in Louisiana said the number of people looking for help in the process has increased in recent weeks.

An official at a Vietnamese community center in eastern New Orleans says there has been a steady increase in people interested in signing up in the past week or so. One problem: She said the Healthcare.gov website was getting slow last week as interest increased. A dozen counselors are on staff to help sign up people in time to meet Monday's deadline at the St. Thomas Community Health Center.

Meanwhile, Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover said last week that navigators were booked up with appointments through the final enrollment hours.

Overton Brooks' Patient's appointment cancellation causes concern

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion. We’ve uncovered concerns, however, over how their numbers look so good - while patients are still waiting to be seen.“Certainly from my viewpoint here, as a veteran, as a physician, the c...

So far we've brought you a whistle blower employee, and then, after two weeks of waiting, you heard the official V.A. response. But it's said that there are three sides to every story.“We're not challenged for access at Overton Brooks, we can provide same day access, that's why we're encouraging same day access, that's why we're encouraging veterans to enroll into our system.” Those are the words from Interim Director at Overton Brooks V.A. Ever since allegations that veterans died waiting for care came out of phoenix, we've all been asking, why, and how could an organization aimed at helping our servicemen and women foster an atmosphere where this has gone on for so long?

The Ohio State marching band is moving forward without its director; a day after he was fired they're performing with the Columbus Symphony in what's often considered the band's unofficial season kickoff.
Having forced out a beloved football coach and watched its president retire after a series of verbal gaffes, Ohio State University again finds itself grabbing headlines with the firing of a celebrated marching band...
