Body found floating in Red River in south Bossier Parish, identified

Posted: Updated:
BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KTBS) -

UPDATE: Crime Scene Investigators with the Bossier Sheriff's Office have identified the man recovered from the Red River Tuesday evening as Glen Bowens Jr. 22 of Shreveport.

Bowens is originally from California but had been living in Shreveport. His next of kin were notified of his death earlier Wednesday.

While the exact cause of death is still undetermined, investigators indicate there is no sign of trauma or any indications of foul play. Results from the forensic pathologist and toxicology report are pending and could take up to six weeks.

Bossier Parish Sheriff's officials confirm a body was found floating in the Red River about a mile south of the Red River South Marina on Highway 71 in south Bossier Parish.

The Bossier Parish Coroner, Dr. John Chandler, says a fisherman discovered the body a little after 6 p.m. Tuesday evening and contacted authorities.

Chandler confirms the body to be that of a young black male, who was floating in the water for possibly one to two days.

Authorities are still working to make a positive identification in order to notify family members, however BPSO spokesperson Lt. Bill Davis says investigators do not believe the man is from Bossier Parish.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

About one year ago, KTBS brought you a startling investigation into federal background checks for firearm purchases. Background checks are supposed to weed out felons and mental defectives. But Louisiana had reported zero mental defectives to the FBI's background check system, making us one of the worst states for keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. Because of that, lawmakers passed laws to fix these broken background checks. Until this law went into effect, someone could walk...
