Security video shows Shreveport thief stuff clothes into underwear

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

Susie Buchanan says she still can't believe what she caught on her store's surveillance video.

"There's no way to explain it," Buchanan said. "You just have to show the video."

The video from 1:40 Wednesday afternoon shows two people enter Lil' Miss Priss & Co. Boutique on Youree Drive. The woman collects clothes from racks, bundles them with the hangers and- in a matter of seconds- stuffs the whole package into her pantyhose.

"When we watched the video, immediately we started screaming in shock," employee Kelsey Brown said. "I picked up the phone and called the cops."

Brown says the couple was acting suspiciously and the male counterpart smelled like alcohol, but she said she still can't believe it happened.

Once Buchanan realized they're out about fifteen items- worth approximately $500- she posted the video to her Facebook. That video's been viewed hundreds of times. Now Buchanan hopes those "shares" will end in tips on the thief's identity.

"I love the support from the community," Buchanan said. "That means a lot. I love it but I wasn't expecting it."

All the stolen clothes are made by hand either at Lil' Miss Priss or by individual designers around Shreveport-Bossier.

Salinda Russell Barnard wrote on the Facebook link: "I'm a home business owner and I created some of the merchandise taken by these criminals. Stealing from us means stealing ballet lessons and vacation monies from our families. This theft hurts us personally."

Shreveport police are investigation the theft but have not made any arrests. They, if arrested, the couple will face felony shoplifting charges.

"Their intent is most times to resell that clothing at a very low price, often almost giving it away," SPD's Marcus Hines said. "It's really an insult to the hard work by that business owner."

If you can help police arrest the people responsible for this theft, call Caddo CrimeStoppers at (318) 673-7373.
