Voters head to the polls for municipal elections

LOUISIANA (KTBS) -

Voters in 42 of Louisiana's 64 parishes are heading to the polls today for municipal elections which include a few referendums.

In Natchitoches Parish, residents in the village of Goldonna will decide whether to abolish the position of police chief and let the mayor and Board of Aldermen contract for police services.

Earlier this year, Goldonna Police Chief Johnny Earl Rowell was arrested by the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's office as part of an investigation that involved one of the chief's relatives. Rowell, 63, was charged with malfeasance in office and being an accessory after the fact.

Up for grabs in DeSoto Parish, Stonewall's mayor and five empty council seats.

There's also a tax on the table to fund the Animal and Mosquito Control District in DeSoto Parish, plus a tax to support Fire District No. 3.

Voters in Tallulah, Oak Grove, Rayville, Winnsboro and Winnfield will vote on Mayoral elections.

Union Parish voters will decide who they want to be Sheriff for the next four years.

The polls open at 7 a.m. for Saturday elections and close at 8 p.m. For more information on voting click here to reach the Louisiana Secretary of State's website.
