DESOTO PARISH, La. (KTBS) -

More raw emotion in the courtroom in DeSoto Parish today as the penalty phase continued in the Brian Horn murder trial.

RELATED STORY - Jury: Can I send Brian Horn to his death?

Basically what came out in court today is that Horn was a bad kid.

He went joyriding at the age of 3, burned up his parents' mattress, started a forest fire, and that's just in his toddler to teen years.

There were some monumental moments like when Brian's brother, Kevin, took the stand and was asked by the defense if his brother's life has worth right now.  After a log pause, he said "Yes".

But the first person to take the witness stand was Brian's uncle, Alvin. He talked about Brian's problems as a child and the problems in the home as he was growing up. When he was almost finished, he looked over at Justin Bloxom's mother, Amy, with tears in his eyes and said he would like to make amends but then said "I don't think amends can be made in this case". Amy just looked on.

Then Brian's 96 year old grandmother took the stand and could not recall a letter she may have written years ago about Brian Horn's behavior and referred to Brian as her nephew, which made for a lighter moment during this intense part of the penalty phase.

Then things got very serious when defense attorney Jay Fowler was almost charged with contempt of court for his line of questioning directed towards one of the witnesses.

Brian Horn was convicted earlier this week of killing Justin Bloxom, 12, four years ago.

The penalty phase continues tomorrow morning.

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. According to our V.A., they do not have a problem getting patients seen quickly - and the numbers they report echo that conclusion. We’ve uncovered concerns, however, over how their numbers look so good - while patients are still waiting to be seen.“Certainly from my viewpoint here, as a veteran, as a physician, the c...

Ever since allegations that veterans died waiting for care came out of phoenix, we've all been asking, why, and how could an organization aimed at helping our servicemen and women foster an atmosphere where this has gone on for so long?
