WASHINGTON (AP) -

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says he's pleased a Republican congressman from Louisiana apologized after a newspaper published a video it says shows him kissing a woman who isn't his wife. But Cantor stopped short of calling for U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister to resign.

Cantor, of Virginia, says McAllister's constituents deserved the apology, issued late Monday. But he said he would "reserve further judgment."

The video was posted on the Ouachita Citizen's website. It shows the congressman and a female staff member and was shot at McAllister's Monroe office, the newspaper says.

"There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed," McAllister said in his apology. He faces a re-election campaign this year.

Meanwhile, the McAllister story is spreading across the globe, verging on viral in social circles. In the UK, one headline in the Daily Mail online reads -- 'He wrecked my life': Husband of female staffer caught on video passionately kissing a Christian lawmaker says couple are headed for divorce."

Of course it's trending high coast to coast here in the United States as well. Time magazine says -- "Louisiana Congressman Admits Kissing Staffer in Video" .. while the Daily Beast screams -- "Duck Dynasty Congressman In Sex Scandal". And the Christian Science Monitor says -- "Kissing congressman' Vance McAllister: Will voters forgive transgression?"
