BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTBS) -

If you hit Airline or Youree Drive, you know you're most likely to be doing more waiting, than driving.

"We have selected a few areas and those are based on the needs of those intersections, really it's about congestion issues."

Susan Stafford, LA Department of Transporation & Development Spokesperson says the traffic signal study is already underway and pinpoints some of the area's most congested roadways.

Those include Airline Drive (LA 3105), Barksdale Blvd. (US 71 from LA 612 to I-20), Youree Drive (LA 1 from LA 526 to Lake Street), Mansfield Road (US 171 from Williamson Way to I-20), and Bert Kouns (LA 526 from LA 3132 to I-20).

"The more congested that intersection is, this will actually help to alleviate those rear-end type accidents," Stafford says.

Eight of the top ten busiest intersections in Bossier City fall along the notoriously congested Airline Drive.

So if you just happen to enjoy a traffic snarl, visit East Texas at Airline, I-20 at Airline, I-220 East and Westbound at Airline, or Shed Road at Airline at any given time of the day.

Because each of these intersections sees, on average, about 50,000 vehicles pass through them every day.

"It's a computer program that's going to calculate the traffic volume for certain periods of time, so that's going to determine if that signal needs to be re-timed and how it's going to improve efficiency."

Stafford says the state works with city and parish traffic engineers to determine which areas could most benefit from the signal studies, this one expected to last about 18 months.

That's when you see those thin, black strips placed across the road to count the vehicles.

These traffic signal studies are conducted every three to five years to accommodate changes in traffic flow.
