Ethics complaint against Rep. Tom Cotton dismissed

Posted: Updated:

An ethics panel has dismissed a complaint that accused Arkansas congressman and Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Tom Cotton of illegally soliciting contributions during a radio interview at his office in the U.S. Capitol.

His campaign on Wednesday released a copy of a March 13th letter from the House Ethics Committee dismissing the state Democratic Party's complaint. Democrats complained that Cotton violated rules barring congressmen from soliciting donations while inside the Capitol.

The letter said the panel unanimously voted to dismiss the case.

However, former Arkansas Chief Justice Jack Holt filed a new complaint Wednesday against Cotton. Holt is asking the Office of Congressional Ethics to consider whether Cotton broke House rules by not specifying clients for whom he provided consulting services.

Cotton's campaign says the new complaint is without merit.
