Former Arkansas Sheriff faces misdemeanor charges

Posted: Updated:
Little River County, Ark. -

Two candidates running for sheriff of Little River County, Arkansas will be facing each other in court and at the polls.

Former Sheriff Danny Russell is facing charges of interfering with law enforcement and disorderly conduct.
According to the incident report, sheriff deputies responded to a disturbance at the home of Russell's son.
When officers arrived, they say Danny Russell and his son were arguing with a state worker.
Both men will face misdemeanor charges in court next month.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Gary Gregory, a Democrat, who was named as a victim on the report, will be running against Russell, another Democrat, in the May 20th primary election.
Ashdown Police Chief Doyle Crouch will also be running as a Democrat.
Bobby Walraven is the lone Republican in the race.

Russell had been sheriff 16 years, before Sheriff Gregory took office in 2012.
