Byrd's eye view; New Orleans a great fit

Posted: Updated:
Harahan, La - New Saints safety Jairus Byrd already knew he was joining a talented team, but is jumping right in learning how it also has a special relationship with its fans.

Byrd went to Harahan Elementary School to talk to kids about the importance of reading and they taught him the importance of the Saints to their community.  Byrd has yet to play his first game in the Black and Gold but fans know he's a talented addition and he knows he's come to a special team and place.

Byrd says some of his new teammates have told him how important the Saints are to their fans.  The main reason he selected the Saints as a free agent was to win, but he is already enjoying his new community.

The saints believe Byrd, as a playmaking free safety, will be the perfect complement to hard-hitting strong safety Kenny Vacarro.  But Byrd says he is looking forward to playing with the rest of the secondary as well and mentioned Keenan Lewis and Champ Bailey specifically.

Byrd is anxious to get to work in Rob Ryan’s defense, but for the time being is very happy to be in New Orleans and clearly New Orleans is happy to have Byrd.
