Young and restless

Posted: Updated:
RUSTON, La - From LA Tech Athletics:  Louisiana Tech quarterback Scotty Young has elected to forego his final year of eligibility and end his collegiate football career after obtaining his degree from Louisiana Tech University this summer. The decision to end his career comes as Young played in seven games making six starts last season for LA Tech.

“I am graduating this summer and am ready to move on to the next chapter of my life,” Young said of his decision. “Football has been a really good journey but sometimes you have to know when to end it. I have loved the experience and will cherish these memories forever. I want to thank the old staff for allowing me the opportunity to come to Louisiana Tech and I want to thank Coach Holtz and his staff for giving me the opportunity to stay here and earn my degree. It has been a great experience for me, one in which I have enjoyed every moment of.”

Young was 87-for-165 for 733 yards in 2013, his lone season eligible to play for the Bulldogs. He completed four touchdown passes and was intercepted twice throughout the year.

“I want to thank Scotty for his time here,” Bulldogs head coach Skip Holtz said. “He was a selfless player during his tenure and I am happy he will be able to obtain his degree from Louisiana Tech in only four years in college. He was a model student-athlete and representative of our program and I wish him the best of luck. Scotty will be another one of our great alumni, adding to the thousands of great alumni this University has produced.”

A native of Denton, Texas, Young transferred to Louisiana Tech after two years at Texas Tech where he did not see any game action. He sat out the 2012 season after transferring to Louisiana Tech due to the NCAA Transfer Rule.
