SHREVEPORT, La. -

Kindergarten and first grade students will have another option for school starting in the fall.

Linwood Public Charter School is expanding. School officials made the announcement Wednesday morning at a press conference.

Nearly 500 sixth, seventh and eighth graders are currently enrolled at Linwood. Next year, the school looks to add over 100 new students with about 50 in each of the new grades.

The school's president of the board says they'll add a grade each year after until Linwood becomes a K-8 school.

"We are increasingly aware that the longer a student stays here at Linwood, the greater is their increased achievement" said Board President Gard Wayt.

The kindergarten and first grade classes will be from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The new grades will have their own hallway inside the school, near the office and the kids will be bused differently from the older students.

Linwood officials look to hire new staff and enroll students this coming Saturday, April 26. A student round-up will be held there from 10:00 a.m. until noon.
