ABA Champion Mavs have MVP and Coach of the Year

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La - From ABA: The American Basketball Association today announced that Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks guard Ed Horton has been selected as the League’s Most Valuable Player for the 2013-14 season. Horton, from Southwood High School in Shreveport, led the Mavericks to an unprecedented undefeated (34-0) season!  The Mavericks also captured its 3rd ABA/Pro Basketball National Championship on April 14th.  The Mavericks are the 1st ABA team to win 3 National Championships!

Horton averaged 18.2 points per game, 4.5 assist per game, and 2.2 steals per game for the season, while shooting 54.6% from the floor, 44.4% from the 3 point line, and 77.2% from the free-throw line.

Horton was an ABA All-Star this season and was a 1st Team All-ABA player.  He was also chosen as the MVP of the ABA Championship Finals and becomes only the 2nd player in ABA history to be chosen ABA MVP and Championship Finals MVP in the same season.  The other was former Mavericks player Josh Pace during the 2009-10 season.

The American Basketball Association today announced that Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks Head Coach Steve Tucker has been named National Coach of the Year.

This is the 4th time (most selections as Coach of the Year ever in league history) Coach Tucker has been named National Coach of the Year.  Tucker is the winningest coach in ABA history with a 176-26 record over six seasons as a head Coach in the ABA.  Tucker has an overall coaching record of 586-251.  He has led his teams to 3 National Championships, 5 Division Championships, and has been selected to coach in 6 ABA All-Star Games (most ever by any head coach).

Tucker has led the Mavericks to an amazing 123-7 record in 4 seasons and 3 National Championships as the Mavericks Head Coach.  The Mavericks have won 60 consecutive games over the last 2 seasons, and have won 66 straight games at home.

Coach T is regarded by many as the top coach in professional basketball not coaching in the NBA!
