FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -

Although Arkansas' spring game was a high scoring affair with the Red team downing the White team 61-22, head coach Bret Bielema was impressed with the defense's performance. The Hogs 'D' netted 4 picks and returned one for a touchdown. The first team defense held the White squad to 2 out of 14 on third downs, while the Red team defense recorded 9 sacks for an overall loss of 56 yards.

When asked about if his defense will be ready for another battle-tested SEC schedule, Bielema said his Razorbacks are definitely a more physical unit than last season.

"The proof is going to be in the pudding next fall. Just from coaching defense, I feel comfortable about how they're lining up, what they're saying, ways they're communicating, the swag they're playing with," Bielema said. "The corners were very physical today. I know it's hard for me to say that because corners are not necessarily the toughest guys in the world But they're playing extremely physical, which had an effect on those receivers on both of those interceptions in the first half and that's hopefully going to bode well for us in the future."

Arkansas' defense has a tough test right out of the gate in 2014, taking on reigning SEC champs Auburn on August 30th in their season opener.
