Natchitoches Parish detectives arrest Provencal man on aggravated rape charges

Provencal-Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Detectives have arrested a Provencal man in connection with an inappropriate sexual relationship with a mentally challenged female according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr.

On Thursday, April 24th, Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division responded to reported rape allegations of a mentally challenged female in the Provencal area.

During the course of the investigation, detectives investigated the allegations,interviewing the victim, and witnesses, identifying a suspect in the case.

The victim was transported to the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center for an examination.

Detectives learned during the investigation, the suspect had inappropriate sexual relations with the victim on two occasions at his residence, and at a undisclosed location in the Provencal area.

As a result of the investigation, detectives developed sufficient evidence and probable cause to obtain criminal arrest warrants signed by a Tenth Judicial District Court Judge.

Joe Amos McFerrin, 72, of the 4000 block of La. Hwy 120, Provencal, La., was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on April 24th, charged with 2-counts of Aggravated Rape.

A Tenth Judicial District Court judge set bond on Monday at $300,000.

Deputies are not releasing the name or age of the victim.

Detectives Jonathan Byles was assisted by Lt. Layne LaCaze in the investigation.
