Drug task force captures 56 in 2 parishes

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, La. - More than 35 officers from Ouachita and Morehouse parish law enforcement agencies joined to arrest 56 people on drug and weapons charges.

The News-Star reports that some of the weekend arrests were on outstanding warrants. Others resulted from undercover drug buys or information turned up by patrols over the two-day period.

KNOE-TV reports that officers confiscated marijuana, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, prescription pills and three semi-automatic pistols. Marijuana confiscations totaled less than a pound, including 31 bags each holding an eighth of an ounce.

The multi-jurisdictional task force was coordinated by the 4th Judicial District Attorney's office. It included officers from Ouachita and Morehouse parish sheriff's offices, the SCAT Team, Louisiana State Police and the University of Louisiana at Monroe Police.
