Citizens encouraged to sign up for CodeRED

Posted: Updated:
TEXARKANA, Tx. -

The City of Texarkana, Texas urges citizens to sign up for CodeRED Emergency Notification System to stay informed in case of an emergency. This system, shared by the cities of Texarkana, Texas, Texarkana, Arkansas, Bowie and Miller Counties, is a high-speed telephone and email communication service that allows for targeting of specific area or blanket notification of the area.

"Given the unpredictable weather common to our region in the spring, we think it's important to remind citizens how to stay informed," Lisa Thompson, Public Information Officer for the City of Texarkana, Texas, said. "If you have moved, changed your phone number, or recently moved to the area, please update your information."

The system will notify residents of critical community alerts, such as: weather emergencies, evacuation notices, bio-terrorism alerts, boil water notices, and missing child reports. The system is capable of making 60,000 calls per hour and will deliver a recorded message to a live person or a voicemail service, making three attempts to connect to any number. The system will only be used for emergency purposes.

Residents can sign up for CodeRED by visiting the city's website.
