Saints may travel SoCal Route 66 to NFL draft

Posted: Updated:
Metairie, La - Center has become a position of need for the Saints with Brian de la Puente having signed a free agent deal with the Bears and no experienced center on the roster.  We have discussed on KTBS 3 Sports how former undrafted rookie free agent Tim Lelito has been working at center during the off-season.  The Saints also brought former Saints and current 49ers free agent center Jonathan Goodwin in for a visit, but have not signed him which has led us to speculate how the team may address the position in the draft.

Now we have a name.  USC center Marcus Martin has been invited to New York for the draft and Pro Football Talk is reporting that's because he may be a late first round pick and potential target of the Saints.  Martin began his career with the Trojans at guard and Sean Payton loves lineman who can play multiple positions.

Unless some player not expected to still be on the board when the Saints pick at 27 falls to them, Saints fans should not be surprised if the team selects Martin Thursday night.
